What Have You Done for You, Today?
As a busy mother, I am more than aware of the fact that often our excess weight comes from simply not taking care of ourselves. We tend to eat whatever the kids are having rather than taking a couple of extra minutes to grill a chicken breast or chop some lettuce for a salad. Never mind the fact that the mac ‘n cheese and chicken nuggets have a lot of extra calories that we just don’t need.
We also make the mistake of feeling guilty about taking the time to exercise. Time we could be spending with our children instead. It is important to realize that everything we do is teaching our children something. If we don’t take the time out to do things for ourselves, we are not only cheating ourselves; we are cheating our children, as well.
You see, children live what they learn. If you continue to neglect your body, they will grow up and follow in your footsteps. If you don’t feel that you are important, they will grow up feeling that they aren’t important, either. Your family deserves a happy, healthy mom and you deserve a happy, healthy you–so do something for YOU each day. Hop on the treadmill or elipital for 30 minutes, make that salad and grill that chicken breast. In the end, everyone wins cause “when momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy”.
I have no family but I have my small dogs five of them and they are my family and since I have a serious spine disease and cannot walk or stand but a few minutes . What I have done for myslef is enjoyed a good cold coke and a bag of vinegar and salt potato chips.. Smile Just enjoying good junk foods especially sweets is what I do for me. Since I have no probelm with weight I do not gain it Ionly weigh 120 pds. so I can indulge myslef in all the sweets and junk food I want and I do. But I do not advise this for others. Lucky for you that you don’t have to worry about your weight, BUT as a person who enjoys folk remedies you certainly must be aware that putting too much junk food into your body has other detrimental effects?
What we eat affects our minds, bodies and spirits so there are many reasons to take the time to eat more healthfully and to find better ways to pamper ourselves than with junk food: A nice bubble bath, a facial, manicure or pedicure or just relaxing to some good music or meditating.
Sure, other ways of pampering ourselves take a little more time and effort, but in the end they are so much better for us and we are so worth it!!!
It is very true that as moms our priorities are usually down on the very bottom of the list - often getting neglected for weeks or months. But its important we do it, because as you said, if mom’s not happy, nobody is going to be happy!
